Which liquors are in the quintessential liquor cabinet?
I understand that a well stocked cabinet would have Gin, Vodka, Whiskey, and Rum, but what else would be good to keep on hand to please and surprise people when they want a drink?

GET RAMS PISS
Petron tequila
Gray Goose or Belvedere vodka
Middleton rare Irish whiskey (or Bushmill's Black Bush if that's too expensive)
Captain Morgan's rum
Sorry, I don't know anything about gin!
Tequila and a good single malt scotch. I would also get some irish cream, triple sec, Kahlua and Amaretto. I would recommend if you want to please as many people as possible, get a couple different bottles of the vodka, whiskey and rum. There is a huge difference between the high end and the low end. Depending on how you want to use it.
You should get some honey rum. It's sweet but very, very delicious. They make a fantastic honey rum in the canary islands -Arehucas, but that might be hard to get your hands on. I'm sure there are others that are just as good.

This website has great suggestions for what liquors to stock and what equipment you'll need. Start with level one for beginners then as you get more confident (or richer) move up to levels 2 and 3
A few Whiskeys (Scotch, Bourbon, Canadian, Irish)
Tequila
Bailey's
Amaretto
Kahlua
Triple Sec (Cointreau...etc is fine)
Peach Schnapps
Cognac
Creme De Cocoa
Malibu coconut rum
Vermouth
Port
Sherry
Sour Apple Schnapps

Not common, but I also keep

Ouzo
Casasha
Blue Curacao
Zubrowka
Tanqueray's Vodka
Tanqueray's No. 10 small batch Gin
Captain Morgan's Private Stock Spiced Rum
Crown Royal
Jack Daniels Single Barrel
Disaronno Amaretto
Amarula Cream
Jim Beam's Red Stag Bourbon
Weller Bourbon
Whaler's Vanille Dark Rum
Frangelico
Grand Marnier
Possibly a good absinthe like Obsello or Marteau de la Belle Epoch
For the quintessential liquor cabinet, surely you would want Q: Quintessential Gin.

"5 times distilled, 5 times filtered, Quintessential's smooth, light taste will change your definition of gin once and for all."

Fresh lemons, a bartender's zester, generous martini glasses, shaker, crystal clear ice, spotless bar towels. For those who insist, an atomizer of dry vermouth.

Cheers!
